Brand Summary – The Healing Place Apothecary:

As a child, I was always drawn to the beauty treasures, lotions, and potions found in my mother’s and grandmother’s bathroom cabinets. From luxury products to drugstore brands, I quickly realized that most skin and hair care products lacked quality. I learned to mix a little of this with a little of that to create the perfect blend of texture, scent, and effectiveness for melanated skin. Over time, I discovered that, like me, my clients wanted high-quality, safe, and natural skincare products that were easy to access.

At sixteen, my father, like so many others at the time, passed away due to complications from AZT, an AIDS treatment drug. In his final days, I was horrified by the hospital meals—poor-quality food he could neither chew nor digest. I knew I couldn’t save his life, but I believed there had to be better alternatives for a gentler transition.
Inspired by my father’s story, I traveled the world, earned a master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and opened an acupuncture practice specializing in pain relief, women’s health, and skincare concerns. While caring for my patients, I saw a huge demand for high-quality personal care products tailored to the unique needs of women of color. That’s when I created these products, and The Healing Place Apothecary was born. The diversity of nature, spirituality, music, food, entrepreneurship, and culture has shaped my upbringing in the San Francisco Bay Area—and it’s reflected in our handmade product line.
