About True Moringa:

Born and raised in Ghana, Kwami Williams has always been familiar with the country’s rich botanical heritage. He grew up moisturizing with shea butter, cleansing with black soap, and savoring his mother’s famous stews and soups made with local vegetables and spices.

His family won the Diversity Visa lottery and immigrated to the United States when he was eight. In 2012, after earning a degree in aerospace engineering from MIT and working at NASA, a mentor challenged him to return to his native Ghana.

When he finally did, after more than a decade in the U.S., he saw his homeland—and the surrounding superfood crops—with fresh eyes, realizing their potential to create wealth for Ghanaian farmers living on less than $2 a day.

To his mother’s initial dismay, he packed his bags and returned to Ghana, using his engineering skills to help build True Moringa’s first processing facility by hand.

He partnered with co-founder Emily Cunningham, a Harvard-trained development economist with experience in microfinance in India and affordable technology design at MIT’s D-Lab. They listened and learned from farmers, scientists, and herbalists who shared the incredible health, skincare, and environmental benefits of moringa.

Together, they founded True Moringa with a mission to bring Ghana’s botanical superfoods to millions of customers worldwide in a way that ensures the well-being of both people and the planet.
